When I arrived in Madrid, I thought that I would just send postcards to my friends and family, and that's it. Like I wrote earlier, I haven't given my Spanish address to nearly anyone, and so I thought that I would quite swapping for the three months I'll spend abroad.
Well... Easier said than done. Even though the stamp prices are pretty much the same as in Finland (read: expensive), the postcards are so cheap. Soon I noticed that I had swapped ten cards. Then 20, then... You know. Things got out of my hands a bit (this has happened in Finland, too, so nothing new under the sun).
Madridiin saapuessani ajattelin vielä, että tulisin lähettämään kortteja lähinnä ystäville ja perheelleni. Kuten aikaisemmin kirjoitin, en ole jakanut Espanjan-osoitettani juuri kenellekään, ja ajattelin, että tulisin pitämään taukoa swappailusta koko sen kolmen kuukauden ajan, jotka täällä vietän.
No tuota noin... Helpommin sanottu kuin tehty. Vaikka postimerkit liikkuvat täällä aika lailla samoissa hinnoissa kuin Suomessa (lue: ne ovat kalliita), ovat postikortit suomalaisella hintatasolla mitattuna todella halpoja. Pian huomasin swapanneeni kymmenen korttia. Sitten 20, ja sitten... Ymmärrätte varmaan. Mopo lähti vähän käsistä (no, näin on käynyt myös Suomessa, että sikäli ei uutta auringon alla).
Now I already have quite a big inventory of postcards and do send cards weekly. 99,9% of my cards head directly to Finland (my boyfriend is very excited about this as he's the person in charge when it comes to my incoming mail).
Tällä hetkellä minulla on jo melko suuri varasto vaihtokortteja ja lähetän niitä viikoittain eteenpäin. 99,9 prosenttia minulle osoitetuista korteista suuntaa suoraan Suomeen (poikaystäväni on tosi innoissaan tästä, koska hän on tällä hetkellä vastuussa minulle saapuvasta postista).
When abroad, even for shorter time, do you usually send (lots of) mail?
Lähetätkö yleensä ulkomailla ollessasi (paljonkin) postia, vaikka olisitkin kyseisessä paikassa vain lyhyen aikaa?
I try to send postcards to a select few when I travel. I usually have about about 7 to 10 people I send to when traveling.

DeleteI agree that postcards are cheaper... But not so beautiful as in Finland! (I just was in Helsinki once).
ReplyDeleteWhen I travel I do send a lot of postcards to my friends and family. The visits to the foreign post offices are a compulsory part of any trip, even the shortest one! :D
Now I'm living abroad, I don't send a lot of postcards, because in this city there isn't a big choice. And naked postcards get usually lost.
Well, I think the Spanish cards are beautiful as well, but if I wanted to send something else than tourist cards... Then I need to say that the Finnish variety is a lot better.
DeleteAh, that definitely is compulsory! Maybe I'd send less cards from here if I was staying for longer, but three months is an excellent excuse to send even a bit more than at home. :-)
I usually buy lots of postcards, but send most when I am back home, together with a "travel journal".
