40,000 hits and the first lottery ever

"Happy Valentine's Day!" - Or better: Happy Friends' Day!

Dear friends!

What could be a better day to notice that the blog has had more than 40,000 hits already? I'm speechless, because when I created this about two years ago, I couldn't have imagined such a number. But here we are, and I'm grateful. The world of snail mail blogs has provided me so many wonderful things; inspiration, of course, but friends as well. Thank you!

To celebrate a bit, I'm organizing a tiny lottery - to participate, just leave a comment with your name/nickname and e-mail address (needs to be written in the comment section) and tell us, how to wish "Happy Valentine's Day" in your native language.

I'll close the lottery tomorrow evening. The winner will receive a postcard from Madrid, so be prepared to send me your postal address via e-mail, in case you're the lucky one.

Enjoy the day - hopefully it'll be a sunny one!

EDIT: Closed on the 15th February at 20.30 (GMT +2).

Suljen arvonnan huomisillan aikana. Voittaja saa minulta Madrid-aiheisen postikortin, joten ole valmis lähettämään kotiosoitteesi minulle sähköpostilla, mikäli onni osuu kohdallesi.

Nautikkaa päivästä, toivottavasti aurinko paistaa!

EDIT: Suljettu 15.2. klo 20.30 (GMT +2).

  2. In Catalan we would say: "Bona diada de Sant Valentí!". But I'm afraid people wouldn't use this sentence a lot, because the "love day" is better celebrated on 23rd April (Saint George's Day/Sant Jordi). On that day men offer red roses to women (wife, girlfriend, friends, colleagues...), and women offer books to men. As you can see, for women is far more expensive! (But usually women just buy a book for their partner).

In the city of Valencia there is something similar on 9th October, "Sant Donís" (Saint Denis). The tradition is that men should give to their partners a neck scarf that wraps marzipan sweets of different shapes and colours, representing the fruits and vegetables from the garden of Valencia. This is a medieval tradition.

    Congratulations for the 40,000!

    1. Thank you for the great comment! We also have "The Day of the Book and the Rose" (literally said that way), but I didn't know that it has its origen in Barcelona! :)

  3. As funny as this might sound I am not sure if there's an official way of saying Happy Valentine's day in Slovenian. I guess you could say srečno Valentinovo or veselo Valentinovo.
Also congratulations on your 40,000 hits. :)
